I met a child-soul many years ago. He was advanced in years, but I could see the smile of God in his eyes. He looked fresh and radiant as a child of five. I said: “O Sanat Kumar! Youth Eternal! Tell me the secret of your unsullied freshness.” He replied: “I always feel fresh; I have no worries, no cares, and no anxieties.” I asked: “Do you mean nothing unpleasant crosses your path?”
“Far from it,” he replied. “The basket of my life has been filled with many a bitter fruit, failures and frustrations. But they touch me not. When I find myself in an unpleasant situation, I enter within, and, gazing at the calm, beauteous countenance of the Mother Divine, say to her: ‘Mother! Here’s another burden for you!’ I forget about it.”
Our tragedy is we try to lift heavy loads on our weak shoulders, when we can easily pass them on to the One to whom all the burdens of all universes weigh like feather. Weighed down by burdens we cannot and needn’t carry, we go through life in agony and pain. All we need do is to go within ourselves and make contact with Mother Divine and cast our cares at her lotus feet, then sing along the pathways of life.
